Mistakes Are The Steppingstones to Learning

Mistakes are not a negative thing. They are part of the learning process. If you are not making mistakes, you are not moving forward.

Be humble enough to see your mistakes, courageous enough to admit them, and wise enough to correct them.

When Thomas Edison was asked about the mistakes he made while developing the light bulb he stated:

There were no mistakes, I simply found over 10,000 ways of not making a lightbulb. – Thomas Edison

Do Not Be Afraid Of Making Mistakes

The biggest mistake you can make is being afraid of making one and letting your fear of mistakes paralyze you into inaction.

Learn from your mistakes. Don’t keep making the same mistakes twice. Mistakes are a huge part if learning so learn from your mistakes. When someone on your team makes a mistake, glorify the lessons learnt and help them move forward.

Every time I make a mistake, I answer two questions:

  • What have I learnt from this?
  • What can I do differently next time?

Always Remember

Success is the result of good judgment. Good judgment is the result of experience, and experience is often the result of bad judgment.

The most valuable thing you can make is a mistake. You can’t learn anything from being perfect. Success is about taking action, making mistakes, learning from them and moving forward.
